The Happy List Challenge ‘08
Summer Olympics ‘08 are no more. I know for those of you who have been watching, this is a hard, sad time of goodbye. As mentioned, I didn’t watch them, so I’m perfectly fine. However, I did watch some Gossip Girl reruns this summer, and I think my brain is scarred.
National Geographic reports that scientists in South Korea are now genetically creating glow-in-the-dark cats. You can see the video HERE. I personally think they are hideous. How could you sleep with some little day-glo orange thing running around all night? Thanks to my friend Kari for pointing out this weird phenomena to me. Her facebook status said, “I want a glow in the dark cat.” And since my friend Kari HATES cats and pets in general, I had to investigate. (This was after asking her if she got one, would she eat it.) How about something more useful? Like glow-in-the dark car keys?
Did you know Danielle Radcliffe (Harry Potter) was diagnosed with Dyspraxia? I totally knew what that was. (Okay, no I had to Google it.) It’s a neurological disorder that makes you clumsy. So dibs on Dyspraxia! Who’s with me? If clumsy is a disease, I think I have a terminal case. Harry Potter and I are alike in so many ways.
It has been an insane month of funerals for me. I’ve lost two former co-workers just in the last week. At one of the funerals Saturday, they read from my friend’s journal. She was religious about journaling. This is an amazing blessing and gift to the two-year old daughter she leaves behind. But at the service they read a page. It was so simple, but yet really revealed her heart and personality. It was just a fun list of things that made her happy at that given time. So here’s my list for today. . .
Things That Make Me Happy Right Now
1. The Olympics are over. (Sorry! I don’t like baseball either, but I promise you, my U.S. citizenship is confirmed.)
2. Tea. I have a strange diet, and this is forever not on it. But I sneak it in anyway. Tea = Euphoria.
3. The smell of citrus–in oranges, in my perfume, orange rolls, in nasty toilet bowl cleaner. Whatever.
4. Saturdays. Enough said.
5. My niece’s curly ringlets.
6. My nephew still holding my hand, even though he’s a total tough dude.
7. Magazines. Not that I read all of them I buy. I’d be much smarter if I did. Or at least dress better.
8. Sixty five degrees and breezy. Can’t wait for fall.
9. Finding a pair of shoes you KNOW you won’t be taking back.
10. Sitting with my mom in church.
11. Randomly catching the last twenty minutes of While You Were Sleeping.
12. Burt’s Bees lip balm.
13. Song number 8 on the Jekyll and Hyde Broadway soundtrack.
Okay, so that’s my list. Now it’s YOUR turn. If you would like to be entered into a drawing for the new Chris Tomlin CD (due Sept 2!!!), then leave a comment with your own list of at least 7 things that make you happy right now. Not as in happy for all time like oxygen, your family, God. But SPECIFIC like your daughter’s giggle, or a specific verse God showed you, or the perfect steak you had for dinner. You have until Wednesday, September 3rd to post your list!!! If you post more than once (different list, of course), then I’ll enter your name each time! (As long as it stays original and sincere. None of this: I am happy for feet, arms, elbows, blood vessels, and corneas.)
I DARE you to take the happy list challenge!!!
Have a great week!
JEN

My Happy List:
1. Rainy days when I don’t have to go anywhere. I light my favorite candle (which is orange ginger from B&B Works!) and write or read and listen to the rain.
2. Knee boots. In the fall, I wear them with every outfit: jeans, skirts, dresses. If I could figure out a way to wear them with the yoga pants I’ve never done yoga in, I would do it. And probably end up on What Not to Wear.

2. Granddaughter Hannah’s chubby legs…so Gammy’s girl.

1. My family–husband and son (son just moved out and it’s killing me)
2. A pair of earrings my paternal grandmother gave me many years ago at Christmas. Whenever I’m feeling like I’m going to have a pity-party, I wear them and think of what a strong woman she was. It puts things in perspective.

16. The Big Chill
17. Childhood memories of me and my brother…I just knew that we were the next Donnie and Marie…
18. Being in LOVE
19. My friends
20. Wacky cake
Things that make me happy:
1. Every food that is rich in cholesterol/saturated fats/processed sugars/preservatives eg. chocolate, cookies, almost all carbonated drinks, chocolate, Chinese, chocolate. I don’t love what it does to my body but it makes me happy.
2. The Hills. I know it’s poor television and probably scripted but I like it and I’m not ashamed to say it. Plus it makes me particularly grateful for a lot of things, like that I don’t know a couple by the name of Speidi. So essentially, it [the Hills] is like Thanksgiving.
3. When I’ve been hitting ‘refresh’ after 30 second intervals (on Facebook) and on the 47th try, it says Inbox (1)
4. Fridays
5. My sisters. They’ve turned out pretty okay - for being related to me.

8. Michael Phelps.
9. Jeans that fit perfectly. Ooh, and sweats.

14. Getting and/or shopping for cute and funky jewelry

16. Friends that don’t love you less with time and tell you as much…
17. Romantic comedies that don’t suck.
18. The concept of not being able to escape God’s love. Ever.

20. When I walk into my room after a long day to find that I actually made my bed this morning. And it’s all inviting and comfy-looking.
Sarah, we were obviously separated at birth. I love poor television with no redeeming quality. I too hit refresh on email and Facebook like a million times a day. Repeatedly. Every millisecond. Finding jeans that fit if total nirvana and a bit of an issue for me now. Why can’t I just find the perfect freakin’ jeans already? Other people apparently do! Also love the stars are just like us sections in mags. Though I always wonder if it’s just a weird “my valet and personal assistant has the flu” sort of moment. Love a good romantic comedy and there hasn’t been one in years. And coming home to find my bed made is…wait no. That never happens.
so i have not been on here in a long while..
